As electric vehicles are one of the best ways for a household to offset their carbon footprint, there are often federal, state and local grants and incentives to help make this possible.

One of these incentives is through the PUD Connect & Drive program, where eligible customers can get up to a $500 reward for the purchase and installation of a qualified Level 2 connected EV charger at their home.

What is a "level 2" charger?

The standard charger that generally comes with an electric vehicle is referred to as a "level 1" charger. This charger plugs into your standard 110-volt outlet at home. The issue is, this provides only a small amount of charging power to the vehicle, and therefore takes many hours to charge the vehicle’s battery to full capacity. This is where the power of a "level 2" charges comes into play.

A level 2 charger runs on 240 volts, and is a outlet dedicated to charging your EV only. This not only means you don’t have to sacrifice an existing outlet while you charge your vehicle, it means the with the added power, you charge time is dramatically reduced.

For example, to fully charge a battery with approximately 100 miles of range, a level 1 charge can take anywhere between 17 to 25 hours to charge. In contrast, a level 2 charger can charge the same battery in only 4 to 5 hours!

240 volts is a lot of power, which is why it’s so important to have a professional safely and corrently install the level 2 charger. Give Evergreen State Electrical Service a call today to get started with your EV cgarging need!
